The new system will place detainees according to the risk posed by them. The measures are intended to make the $2.6 billion-a-year immigration detention system safer and more efficient without raising costs. This is a necessary step to making the system more efficient not just for the 380,000 immigrants detained annually, but also for their attorneys, families, and the government, in that new system will promote organization of detainees more readily (such as a proposed medical classification system). Looks like not everyone took their labor day off. About 2,000 protestors took the streets of Chicago Monday, using their labor day to push for immigration reform. Concern over undocumented aliens in the United States was their primary concern as they marched through downtown Chicago calling for the end to deportations that have destroyed their families and handed them bitter hardships.
Here at the Law Offices of Kurt Hermanni, we are hoping for immigration reform to benefit all aliens residing in the U.S. Hopefully in honor of Senator Kennedy’s death such reform will occur.
